Screening Applicants

Screening and Assessing Potential Employees

How do you know that you've found the best candidate for the job? Well-developed assessment tools for screening, interviews and reference checking can help!

Screening Candidates

  1. Review the job description and your list of required competencies.
  2. Review the qualifications of each applicant as indicated in their resume or application form.
  3. Decide whether or not the applicant meets your basic requirements by comparing the applicant's skills to the job description and your list of required competencies.
  4. Of those applicants that do meet the requirements, choose those you will interview. Depending on the number of applications, you may choose to interview all of them or you may interview only those that exceed your requirements.
  5. Invite successful applicants to an interview and, unless you have indicated otherwise in your advertisements, notify unsuccessful applicants.

Note: Before undertaking any selection process, it is very important to familiarize yourself with the legal framework relative to employment in Canada.
